OCT SCAN

Optical Coherence Tomography is a highly effective way to get a 3D image of materials and tissue.

Many major medical conditions can be found during the course of an eye examination.

Here, at Hill Vision, we have recently acquired a revolutionary piece of diagnostic equipment, a 3D OCT (3D Optical Coherence Tomography) system. This makes it easier to locate and identify potentially serious eye conditions that affect the many retinal layers below the retinal surface, before they reach the uppermost layer of the retina.

Conditions such as age related macular degeneration (ARMD), glaucoma, vitreous detachments, macular holes and diabetic retinopathy can be detected and treated sooner. This is before the damage becomes evident, at a later stage, on the retinal surface, one of the main areas inspected during the course of a routine eye examination.

OCT offers an advanced eye scan, suitable for people of all ages, and is a non-invasive technique. It works similar to ultrasound, but uses light, not sound waves, to build a 3 dimensional image of the many layers which make up the back of the eye (retina).
Our particular OCT instrument also takes a digital photograph of the retina, so areas of concern identified by the scan can be cross referenced with the classic view of the back of the eye, observed by the optometrist.

These images are viewed on a PC screen, so facilitating diagnosis, management of the condition and onward referral, if necessary.
An OCT scan provides reassurance, and is an early warning system, that the deeper layers, as well as the inner surface of the eye, are healthy.
The health of your eyes matters to you and it matters to us, as well. This is why we are offering OCT scans to all our customers.
