Myopia Management
Our myopia management service provides effective solutions to correct short-sightedness and slow myopia’s progression. With specialised treatments and expert care, we aim to help keep myopia at bay and reduce its effects, ensuring better long-term eye health for you or your child.
What is myopia?
Myopia, also known as short-sightedness, is a condition where distant objects appear blurry while close-up details remain clear. It happens when the eye is too long or the cornea (the clear front surface of the eye) is too curved. This causes light to focus in front of the retina (the back part of the eye) instead of directly on it, resulting in difficulty seeing objects at a distance.
If left unchecked, myopia can worsen over time, increasing the risk of more serious eye conditions.
This includes:
- Retinal detachment – when the retina, the light-sensitive layer of tissue at the back of the eye, becomes loose
- Myopic macular degeneration – damage to the macular, the middle part of the retina, causing central vision loss
- Glaucoma – a group of conditions causing damage to the optic nerve
- Cataracts – a clouding of the eye’s lens.
But don’t fret, our myopia management options can help slow its development and reduce the risk of long-term eye problems.

Who is at risk of myopia?
By 2050, it's projected that more than half of the global population could be affected by myopia.
Several factors can increase the likelihood of you or your child developing this condition including:
- Age – myopia often develops during childhood, typically around school age
- Family history – if one or both parents have it
- Prolonged close-up work – spending too much time on activities like reading, using screens, or other close-up tasks
- Limited outdoor time – studies have shown it’s more likely to occur in children who spend less time outside.
Signs and symptoms of myopia
The common symptoms of myopia include:
- Sitting unusually close to screens or television
- Squinting or blinking frequently to see clearly
- Eye strain or headaches, particularly after reading or using screens for long periods
- Holding books or tablets close to the face
- Blurry vision when trying to focus on objects far away
- Frequently rubbing eyes.

Diagnosis and treatment
To determine if you or your child has myopia, we offer a comprehensive eye examination.
Once diagnosed, we offer various treatment options, tailored to any lifestyle and preferences.
Glasses are the most common and straightforward solution, offering an easy way to correct vision. For those who prefer an alternative, contact lenses provide clearer sight without the need for frames.
We also offer specialised myopia management solutions. Specifically designed to help slow the progression of myopia in children, MiSight® 1 day contact lenses feature a unique design that helps reduce the growth of the eye, preventing the condition worsening.
Additionally, MiYOSmart spectacle lenses are designed to control how light focuses on the retina, effectively slowing the advancement of myopia. These lenses are a great choice for children who prefer wearing glasses.
